Bri turned 6 and she, like every other 6 year old, loves the movie Frozen. So we went to Pinterest and settled on a cake that she liked. with a little improvisation, this was the result. Behold, our cake!
The party was held at a roller rink. Having a newborn, I sat out on the skating but their dad got out there and skated with them. It's hard to get a nice picture with no lighting!
The cake was chocolate, baked in a pan with a hole in the center. When I asked what she wanted the filling to be, she said "Rainbows."
We made circles of different colors of frosting and the results were exactly what she wanted.
After laying down a thick layer of colored buttercream, set the cooled second layer on top and carve it down to the shape you're looking for. We wanted a nice, craggy mountain with a path leading up to the castle and a couple of ledges off to the side to decorate, so many scoops were carved out. Finally, give it a thick crumb coat.
We decorated the cake with icy glass sugar shards and all the sprinkles! I went to Safeway and shelled out $8 on the cake topper for the Frozen cake they sell; ask the baker at your store if you can just buy the toys to put on top! Half the time, that's the only part my kids even care about! Add an awesome birthday party and you've got a recipe for success. Frugal, fun and fabulous!
